Fyke nets for eel research
by Craig Isaac
This week on the field we set two fyke nets, one at the shoreline of the GMRC office and one next to the drum at Moffat’s Landing. We set on Monday and check them daily. It is always exciting when we get a few big eels. When we get them we measure them and then tag them so that we can monitor their migration throughout the seasons. The tags are monitored by receivers that are in the river and each time these eels are in distance it logs the tag number and date and time etc.
