Launch of Fish Friends Program
Fish Friends Launch Students are excited to see the Gespe’gewa’gi Institute of Natural Understanding (GINU) back in their schools for the fish friends program. Students between grades 2 and 4 will house eyed eggs in their classroom and learn about the life cycle of the Atlantic salmon. GINU staff have set up a total of five tanks at the Terry Fox Elementary, L.E. Reinsborough School and Alaqsitew Gitpu School. We have also built a partnership with the Ugpi’ganjig Education department and set up a tank for their leadership program. The Fish Friends program will run from April until June when students gather together and release the juvenile Atlantic salmon.
