American Eel

Title

Identification of traditional and current eel habitat and migration barriers in Gespe’gewa’gi.

Description

The purpose of this research is to identify and assess traditional overwintering/fishing grounds of the American Eel on three First Nation communities of Listuguj, Eel River Bar, and Pabineau. A survey of waterways will identify arrival and migration barriers to historical habitat. The health of the identified habitats will be characterized using standard measures for aquatic health. GIS will be used to create a comprehensive map of traditional and current habitat, of habitat health, and of barriers to migration.
