Tree planting on the Eel river

by John Murvin Vicaire

On Friday, we teamed up with some of the youth from Ugpi’ganjig to improve the habitat along the Eel river. We spent most of our day near the heritage garden and planted aproximately 400 white spruce saplings.

Each year GMRC teams up with youth in different communities to help improve salmon habitat. Trees along rivers help improve habitat by providing shade, by providing food for fish, and by helping to prevent erosion.

The saplings were generously donated by the Juniper Tree Nursery.
